The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger Regarding Sizing Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present a different size category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: previously, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
