Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
