2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the need for a distinct direction.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Hires
This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the full message from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a more distinct vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to heart and revamped the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our players.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. After a period of discussions, he officially joins us on next week.
His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming field is vast, having spent the recent years producing and managing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in receiving Ben soon. We are all excited to keep witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.
David
Experience of the Incoming Leader
Brinkman currently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. Initially, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description reads. "Face the competition with new abilities, stakes, and obstacles that shift every match. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."
Project Ethos has not yet received an official debut schedule or consoles, but enthusiasts can expect further news as creation continues.
